Maine’s Cat Skiing Destination

13 Passenger Snowcat at Big Moose Mountain, Maine

Cat Skiing in Maine

For years, the view and the trails from the summit of Big Moose Mountain lived in our memories — a place we all talked about, pointed to, and wished we could reach again. Now, that dream is back.

With the addition of our 13 Passenger Snowcat, reaching the top of 2,950’ Big Moose is once again possible. This isn’t just a ride — it’s a return to something special.

Our snowcat makes the summit accessible again, opening the door to unforgettable views, fresh turns, and a one-of-a-kind mountain experience found nowhere else in Maine.

FAQ

What is the Summit Snowcat?

The Summit Snowcat is a tracked, over-snow vehicle designed to safely transport guests to the summit of Big Moose Mountain. It provides access to terrain and views that were unreachable for many years and brings back a true Big Moose experience.

Who can ride the Summit Snowcat?

The Summit Snowcat is open to skiers, riders, and sightseeing guests.
Skiers and riders should be comfortable unloading at the summit and skiing or riding down from the top. This experience is best suited for confident intermediate to advanced guests. If you’re unsure whether this is right for you, our staff is happy to help you decide.

Sightseeing tours depart daily at 3:00 PM from the base lodge and offer guests the opportunity to ride to the summit and return without skiing or riding.

How often does the Snowcat run?

Rides typically run every 30 minutes, depending on weather, snow conditions, and operational needs.

Do I need a reservation?

No, but it is highly recommended. Individual Summit Snowcat ride reservations open 48 hours prior to each ski day and must be booked online. Availability is limited per run.

What if weather or conditions aren’t good?

All Summit Snowcat operations are weather and condition dependent. If conditions are unsafe, rides may be delayed or canceled. In the event of a cancellation, we will work with you to reschedule or apply your ride to a future date.

What is a Summit Snowcat Punch Pass?

Punch passes allow frequent riders to save and ride throughout the season.

  • 10 Summit Snowcat rides for $250
  • Limited quantity available
  • transferable
  • Punch passes do not guarantee a specific time slot — reservations are still encouraged.

How do Snowcat sponsors work?

Sponsors help support the growth of Summit Snowcat access at Big Moose.

With a $2,500 sponsorship, you receive:

  • A custom logo or decal displayed on the snowcat
  • A private, full-day snowcat reservation exclusive for you, your friends, and family
  • Recognition as a Snowcat Sponsor

Sponsor days must be scheduled in advance and are subject to weather and conditions.

Is there an age requirement?

Riders must be able to safely load, ride, and unload the snowcat and ski or ride down from the summit. Children must be accompanied by an adult. If you have questions about age or ability, please contact us before booking.

What should I bring?

  • Valid day lift ticket or season pass
  • Skis or snowboard and proper winter gear
  • Helmet recommended
  • Gloves and goggles suggested for wind and summit conditions

Is the Summit Snowcat just transportation?

No — it’s an experience. The Summit Snowcat is about restoring access, reconnecting with the mountain, and giving guests the chance to stand at the top of Big Moose again and ski the view.

How do I book or learn more?

Reservation links will be available online 48 hours prior to each ski day.
